How is child support calculated?

On Behalf of | Jun 11, 2014 | Family Law

In Florida, there is an actual guideline that a court will follow to establish a child support obligation. The base amount is calculated by adding both parent’s net income together and then looking on the chart for the correct number of children. The amount on that chart shows what both parents are expected to spend on their children. The court then looks at the amount of overnights that each parent exercises or is awarded. Net income is your salary minus taxes, social security, medicare and health insurance. Once those numbers are known, the court can add daycare to the child support amount. The Court also has the discretion to deviate up or down 5% from the child support guideline. See https://www.flcourts.org/core/fileparse.php/293/urlt/902e.pdf
