Helping Good People At Their Worst Times

It isn’t true that 50% of marriages end in divorce!

I have often quoted the myth (apparently) that 50% of marriages end in divorce. According to the New York Times, only 30% of couples who married in the 1990s did not reach their 15th anniversary (excluding those in which a spouse died). And couples who married in the 2000’s are even less likely to divorce given their current stats. It seems that people are choosing to wait until later in life when economic stability has occurred before getting married which has allowed for longer lasting unions. The lower divorce rate is also a result of couples having children outside of wedlock. 50% of children born to mothers less than 30 years of age are unwed. Unfortunately, that doesn’t prevent those same parents from going to Family court. In Florida the father of a child born out of wedlock, has no rights. He has to file a Petition to Establish Paternity in order to obtain rights.
